Open Question: work experience in the gulf?? Unhappy at work is it worth retuning back to the UK to actaully work?
Ive recently just joined a big commercial bank in Bahrain in the GCC as a management trainee on 2 month rotations for one year leading to a supposed permanent position in one of the departments i wish to go into or HR place me in. So far i have done 3 rotations one in operations, one in IT and currently in syndications in corporate banking. I am learning quite substantially however there is no actual real work given to me and i have noticed that many people dilly dally in the office rather than work chatting about who got married to who, who had a baby and generally walking around most of the time. Day finish at 3:30 which is odd to me with no lunch break as per the new CEO's timings and its constantly like a morgue/library in every department ive been in which is discouraging to me and would like to work in an environment with some buzz. i wake up every day with the notion that i'm going to go in and do nothing but wait for something to be given to me which never happens and is creating this unmotivated person i am coming in tardy looking at entertainment websites etc. It's also the idea of my friends back in the UK not having time to talk to me cause they're always busy at work especially my gfriend in which this situation is impacting on our relationship creating this jealousy that kills me slowly giving me ideas of i'm wasting my time here why didn’t i just stay in UK' and her constantly prodding me for when I’m going to arrive back which in this gift state after 6 months into this job not having been given anything to which i can be accountable for makes it even more difficult. Its making me think if this is the sort of lazy attitude that they wish to take up and if i go permanent i wouldn’t like to just sitting around doing nothing but socializing as i have had to sacrifice to leave my country to arrive to Bahrain and as a young graduate wish to be motivated in some manner.. Someone please advise me as it seems the other management trainees who are in the same rotation periods and time with company are being occupied while i'm not?? I have already spoken to various people in dept and said there is nothing for me to do which i find difficult to believe and don’t want to seem a whiner weener in front of them if i talk up

Open Question: Education in the Middle East?
Hi, My fiance is a journalist who's worked in the UAE and Bahrain and i'm a Photo Tech. I'm looking into the possibility of moving to the Middle East as she has a few journalist contacts there. It's a bit of a pipe dream at the moment as I don't have a university education and currently looking for a total career change. Plumbing being the favourite at the moment. Question is, could I realistically move over with her and study towards a career while over in said countries? Personally I doubt it but it's worth asking. Cheers in advance!!

Open Question: what is the origin of the taboo word "Kis Emak" "kiss e5tak"?
in lebanon its mostly e5tak in other arab countries its Omak or Omik (in the gulf region). i also just learned an interesting fact about the lebanese swear word "air" which means penis which is also called 3er in Iraq and some parts of the Arabian Peninsuila such as bahrain and kuwait. the word originated from the arabic word اير which was used by Arabs in the Arabian dessert and was once menrioned by prophet Mohammed. http://www.islam-qa.com/ar/ref/121823 did any1 miss me btw? :P

Open Question: What Arab Gulf country can I live in? (Please Help Me!)?
I know it is difficult to receive into the Gulf, but out of these countries: Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain, which is the easiest to receive a Permanent Residency and then hopefully a citizenship? (I know citizenship in the Gulf is nearly impossible.) I plan to go to college and receive a degree in Business Administration, but if there is a better degree and more in demand, I will receive that. I am 16 now. And how do I actually receive the Permanent Residency or Citizenship? Why I ask, and my background: I am Arab and Muslim and proud of my Saudi heritage and culture, but I was born in USA. My parents made mistakes I am too embarassed to state, and I ended up being born in America a US Citizen. I want to go back to the lands of my ancestors.I want to live in the Arabian Gulf with its beautiful cities, Bedouin heritage, mix of tradition and modernity, and where most people are Muslim and dress like me (Thobe/Ghutrah). I want to be able to look the historic places like Diriyyah, Souq Waqif, and Old Dubai. I want to actually live in the Gulf, and visit the surrounding countries. I also feel discriminated against here, and there is just no history here like there is in the Gulf, so I want to live there. A quick look at my situation: Every day of my life I am so miserable because I dont live in the Gulf. I live in the land of the white non-Muslims (Kuffar). I look at pictures of the Gulf and its people, and watch videos and some TV from the Gulf (I say SOME because a lot of the TV is trash, but some shows about Bedouin heritage, or Traditional Music, or Islam I like), and hear to Arab music everyday, and there is more Bedouin items and coffee pots in my room than the Sadu home in Kuwait! I live in Miami, Florida. I go to the Mosque regularly (but in that Mosque is a problem, people mainly from Egypt and Pakistan who call me "Wahhabi", but I do have good friends there), and I wear Thobe and Ghutrah/Shmagh with Aghal most of the time. I pray in public when I have to, so you can imagine the looks people give me! I just do not belong in America! I belong in the Gulf, and my goal in life is to receive there as soon as possible. I also feel embarassed being here, as I do not want to be a part of Western society and civilization, I want to live in the Arab Lands. So if anyone knows about the laws of the Gulf regarding this, and how I can live here, please help me! Just in case anyone asks, my dad died and I have no papers of his, so I have no official GCC papers or anything. And another note: I know the Gulf is not a perfect Islamic Paradise, and some people there dont practice Islam, but I think it comes very close compared to other "Arab" countries. To Jane: Thank You, but do you know how I can receive a citizenship or Permanent Residency? Because without those things, I can only stay in the UAE for a few days, therefore not able to live there. To BK: I am not confused, and I know perfectly well the Gulf countries are every different. Kuwait is very different than Qatar and I know that every country is different, but I am willing to live in any Gulf country. And I know wearing thobe doesnt make a person Arab, and I myself am Arab by blood, but in my opinion, I think wearing Arab clothes is a part of Arab culture and wearing the clothing of the Western Kuffar is rejecting Arab culture. I think Arab clothes are beautiful and it is my choice to not imitate Westerners. I clearly know the differences between the Gulf countries, and the laws are different in each nation,. And BK: I cannot do what you suggested with my dad because I am an orphan, and he made mistakes I am embarassed to state, but I will be the progenitor of a new family.

Open Question: Score My GED Practice Essay Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
Title: Anti-Smoking Laws Recently a lot of anti smoking laws have been passed in order to secure anti smoker's health. This has caused a lot of controversy, because the smokers feel as if their rights are being stripped away. Advantage: I personally feel that the anti smoking laws are a good idea only in places where smokers and non smokers share a certain space or area. There are a lot of people and families going out on evenings for dinner each day. It would be a pity if a nonsmoking family were to share a restaurant where smoking is OK, and possibly be harmed from secondhand smoking. I believe that smoking should be prohibited in places where people co-exist together the most, such as restaurants, airports, malls, and stores. I strongly believe this because I remember when my dad was stationed in Bahrain for duty, and I was there for vacation; When I visited a mall there where people were just smoking inside of the mall. I was shocked to actually look this happening right in front of me, and for someone with asthma like me, I was outraged! The point is that nonsmokers should be able to like a place for what a place is worth instead of the enjoyment being jeopardized by someone who simply just needs some nicotine and who doesn't care of his/her surroundings. Disadvantage: On the other hand smoking is something people have chosen to do, and for nonsmokers to simply say,''cease smoking'', is not right. It is ery difficult for a smoker to simply just quit. I have seen how this impacts daily smokers like my mom who always wants a ciggarette after eating, while waiting, and on the way to the grocery store. The banning of smoking however is a bit too much. There is so much people can do in order to minimize the friction between smokers and nonsmokers like building enclosed smoking rooms in places such as airports. I believe smoking rooms like the one in the airport of London Heathrow works absolutely fine and no one complains. The outside is for smoking, and the government should not be able to restrict smoking on the outside because of a lousy old cigarette. If anything, they should start shutting down these million dollar companies producing more pollution than a person ever can produce by simply smoking. Conclusion: The government should be cautious about passing laws and to what extent they enforce these laws. The world should not be divided into two but instead united whether people smoke or not. However smokers should take into regard that smoking where ever they feel is not the right approach, and should know that smoking is for the outside, public places are for people who interact together and should be smoke free for everyone's health. Point out grammar and anything wrong with it and please grade 1 2 3 4 with 2 being a passing. Be realistic please! ThanX!!! Yeh well I've always been taught to state an opening than an advantage and disadvantage followed by a conclusion.. This probably explains why it looks as if its two different ideas, the idea is to take one side and then the next to prove points for both sides, then pick a side for the conclusion. I will definitively check out the things you said.. Thank u
